Courtyard Apartments Family Shelter

Courtyard Apartments Family Shelter

The Courtyard Apartments Family Shelter opened in fall 2001 to supplement the overcrowded emergency shelter system in Los Angeles County. During their stay of three to six months, Courtyard residents have privacy and independence in their own living space, as well as the support of staff to address basic needs, while they are assisting in obtaining permanent housing.

The Courtyard Apartments consist of 14 fully furnished one- to two-bedroom apartments for families who are enrolled in Beyond Shelter’s “Housing First” Program. The site features a central courtyard, food pantry, clothing closet, laundry facilities and an outdoor play area.

Courtyard staff daily provide advocacy and crisis intervention to families working through such issues as substance abuse, domestic violence and mental illness.
